Pukapuka is a remote coral atoll located in the northern Cook Islands, often referred to by its traditional nickname, "Danger Island." With a small population of around 450 people, many of its residents have migrated to New Zealand or Australia in search of better opportunities. The island has its own distinct language, Pukapukan, which differs from the more widely spoken Cook Islands Māori. Culturally, Pukapuka is deeply rooted in Polynesian traditions, featuring unique dances, music, and intricate handicrafts. The island is particularly renowned for its seafaring heritage, with skilled navigators and fishermen, as well as its beautifully woven crafts, which reflect the creativity and skill of its people.
